    This study aims to present an overview of the presence of Iphigenia, both through the Greek myth and through the adaptation and rewriting of the Attic tragedies, in Portuguese cinema. Although there are not many Portuguese films in which the theme of Iphigenia is recognised, it is present in a very significant way in Noite Escura (In the Darkness of the Night), a film by the award‑ winning João Canijo. Canijo sees Electra as the tragic figure par excellence and her myth as the ancient narrative with the greatest cinematographic potential. Naturally, the myth of Iphigenia, Electra’s sister, would also find its place in the filmmaker’s production.

    Este estudo pretende apresentar uma visão de conjunto da presença de Ifigénia, quer através do mitema grego quer através da adaptação e reescrita das tragédias áticas, no cinema português. Apesar de não serem muitos os filmes em que o tema de Ifigénia se reconhece, ele está presente de modo muito significativo em Noite Escura, filme do premiado João Canijo. Canijo entende Electra como a figura trágica por excelência e o mitema antigo com maiores potencialidades cinematográficas. Naturalmente, o mito de Ifigénia, a irmã de Electra, haveria também de encontrar o seu lugar na produção do cineasta.
