A segregação socioespacial nos espaços das cidades refere-se à periferização ou marginalização de determinadas pessoas ou grupos sociais por fatores econômicos, culturais, históricos e até mesmo raciais. O processo de urbanização também acaba segmentando o espaço e, dessa forma, produz novos lugares anteriormente não planejados. A estrutura urbana revela e reproduz as desigualdades no que tange à distribuição do equilíbrio social. Diante disso, o presente artigo objetiva apresentar a análise do processo de reprodução da segregação socioespacial no bairro Melissa em Cascavel-PR. Como aporte metodológico, utilizamos a pesquisa bibliográfica, pesquisa documental junto aos órgãos públicos da Prefeitura Municipal de Cascavel e pesquisa de campo seguida pela aplicação de questionários, tabulação e análises dos dados. Os resultados indicam que a segregação socioespacial tem íntima ligação com infraestrutura, condições econômicas, condições de saúde e educação, opções de lazer, estrutura das moradias e saneamento básico.
Geographical segregation means the peripheralization and marginalization of certain people or groups due to economic, cultural, historical, and even racial factors. The process of urbanization also ends up splitting the area, and places that were not originally planned come to be. The urban structure reveals and reproduces the inequality regarding social balance. Taking that into consideration, this paper aims to present the results of the analysis concerning the reproduction of the geographical segregation in the Melissa neighborhood of Cascavel, PR. In order to achieve that, this study was based on literature review, document research with the help of Cascavel’s public agencies, and field research, as well as data gathering through questionnaires, data tabulation and data analysis. The results suggest that geographical segregation is closely related to infrastructure, economic conditions, health, education, types of leisure available, housing structure, and basic sanitation.
