    We met here to talk about Ruth Landes. I think that what I know about her I've already written in two texts - this one, the preface to the second edition of her book The City of Women ( Landes, 2002 ), and another that is now being published in book form - and I don't think it's necessary to repeat what's there here. But I would like to take advantage of this discussion to emphasise some things that were not said, or were said quickly, in these texts and to recount my encounters with Ruth Landes.

    Nos encontramos aqui para falar de Ruth Landes. Acho que o que eu sei sobre ela já escrevi em dois textos – neste que é o prefácio à segunda edição do seu livro A cidade das mulheres ( Landes, 2002 ), e num outro que agora está sendo publicado em livro – e não creio que seja necessário repetir aqui o que está lá. Mas gostaria de aproveitar esta discussão para enfatizar algumas coisas que não foram ditas, ou foram ditas de maneira rápida, nesses textos e de contar meus encontros com Ruth Landes.
