A primeira parte deste artigo discute a emergência da “velhice” como uma nova etapa da vida no contexto da descoberta de outros estágios; a segunda parte aborda o surgimento de descontinuidades no curso da vida; a última parte discute a contribuição de mudanças históricas na família e no curso da vida para a segregação por idade.AbstractThe first part of this article discusses the emergence of “old age” as a new stage of life in the context of the discovery of other stages of life; the second part addresses the emergence of discontinuities in the life course; and the last part discusses the contribution of historical changes in the family and the life course to age segregation.
