The aim was to analyze the social representations of teachers working in the prison system regarding the resocialization of inmates. Based on the Theory of Social Representations – founded by S. Moscovici – and the critical studies of Human Rights – advocated by J. Herrera Flores and E. Dussel –, the research was conducted in a state penitentiary in Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo. The study was divided into two stages: the first involved a Likert questionnaire with 21 teachers (U=29), followed by semi-structured group interviews with 5 of them, sequentially. The data were analyzed using Excel© statistical software and IRaMuTeQ software. The results revealed a diversity of social representations among the teachers, who recognize challenges such as the lack of resources and institutional support, but also point out the transformative potential of education. They see themselves as key agents in the resocialization process, while also highlighting the conflicts that hinder the full realization of this process.

Objetivou-se analisar as representações sociais dos professores que trabalham no sistema prisional sobre a ressocialização dos detentos. Fundamentada na Teoria das Representações Sociais – fundada por S. Moscovici – e nos estudos críticos dos Direitos Humanos – apregoada por J. Herreira Flores e E. Dussel –, a pesquisa foi realizada em uma penitenciária estadual em Cachoeiro de Itapemirim, Espírito Santo. O estudo foi dividido em duas etapas: a primeira envolveu um questionário Likert com 21 professores (U=29), seguida por entrevistas coletivas semiestruturadas com 5 deles, de modo sequencial. Os dados foram analisados utilizando o programa estatístico do Excel© e o software IRaMuTeQ. Os resultados revelaram uma diversidade de representações sociais entre os professores, que reconhecem desafios como a falta de recursos e o apoio institucional, mas também apontam o potencial transformador da educação. Eles se veem como agentes fundamentais no processo de ressocialização, ao mesmo tempo que destacam os conflitos que dificultam a plena efetivação desse processo.
