    Practices, representations, supports, forms, texts, intertextualities, contexts ... The social and cultural history of writing, in different ways, has been gaining prominence as a research theme in recent decades. The present article presents some research results that deal with two groups of agents involved in the “culture of writing” in Minas Gerais, in the second half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century. At first, it seeks to define the analytical potential of what it understands by “culture of writing”. In the sequence, it assesses the presence of “agents of letters”, namely lawyers and teachers, who worked in Mariana, between the years 1750 and 1834. The results presented suggest as probable the hypothesis that Minas Gerais, due to its wealth and relevance administrative, it was not sterile ground for the cultivation of writing.

    Práticas, representações, suportes, formas, textos, intertextualidades, contextos... A história social e cultural da escrita, em diversos caminhos, vem ganhando destaque como tema de investigação nas últimas décadas. O presente artigo apresenta alguns resultados de pesquisas que versam sobre dois grupos de agentes envolvidos na “cultura dos escritos” em Minas Gerais, na segunda metade do século XVIII e início do século XIX. Em um primeiro momento, busca definir as potencialidades analíticas do que compreende por “cultura dos escritos”. Na sequência, aquilata a presença de “agentes das letras”, nomeadamente advogados e professores, que atuaram em Mariana, entre os anos de 1750 e 1834. Os resultados apresentados sugerem como provável a hipótese de que as Minas Gerais, pela sua riqueza e relevância administrativa, não foi terreno estéril ao cultivo do escrito.
