    O tema desse artigo são os monumentos catástrofes, ou seja, aqueles produzidos como homenagem às vítimas de uma tragédia. Inspirando-se em Walter Benjamim, considera-se esses monumentos como documentos da cultura, tendo em vista os seguintes aspectos: possuem um importante significado cultural na leitura das catástrofes, difundem narrativas com ampla visibilidade destacando o sofrimento das vítimas, possuem a capacidade de apaziguar o trauma da catástrofe, são artefatos modernistas, pois utilizam a representação estética para chocar o espectador e/ou fazer uma denúncia social.

    The theme of this article is catastrophic monuments, that is, those produced  as a tribute the victims of a tragedy. Inspired by Walter Benjamim, these monuments are considered documents of culture, in view of the following aspects: they have an important cultural significance in the reading of disasters, they diffuse narratives with wide visibility highlighting the suffering of the victims, they have the ability to appease the trauma of catastrophe, are modernist artifacts, as they use aesthetic representation to shock the viewer and / or make a social complaint.
