    This text addresses the challenges faced by historians in contemporary times, this time increasingly liquid and elusive. He proposes that we give up any illusion around the existence of a firm ground for the production of historical knowledge, from any fixed point where historical truth resides, even if it is a cliff edge, to launch ourselves on the adventure of building knowledge and truths, of inventing the past, launching us into the sea of time and history, where reality is incessant movement and change. We replace the contemplative and frightened historian at the edge of the cliff, still looking for a lifeline in social practices, for the surfer-historian, knowing by moving, by moving, by putting the test on the crest of the waves of our time, time of navigations and piracy in the world wide web, in the adventure of trying to prevent the true will, in our field, from sinking.

    Esse texto aborda os desafios enfrentados pelos historiadores na contemporaneidade, esse tempo cada vez mais líquido e fugidio. Ele propõe que abramos mão de qualquer ilusão em torno da existência de um solo firme para a produção do conhecimento histórico, de qualquer ponto fixo em que residiria a verdade histórica, mesmo que seja uma beira de falésia, para nos lançarmos na aventura de construir conhecimento e verdades, de inventarmos o passado, nos lançando no interior do mar do tempo e da história, onde a realidade é o movimento e a mudança incessantes. Substituamos o historiador contemplativo e amedrontado à beira da falésia, ainda buscando nas práticas sociais uma tábua de salvação, pelo historiador-surfista, conhecendo ao se deslocar, ao se mover, ao se por a prova na crista das ondas de nosso tempo, tempo de navegações e piratarias na rede mundial de computadores, na aventura de tentar impedir que a vontade de verdade, em nosso campo, venha naufragar.
