    Las funciones y los usos de los recursos hídricos en el Gran Humedal del norte de Ciego de Ávila han variado a lo largo de los años en correspondencia con las modificaciones realizadas por el hombre sobre el régimen natural de las aguas y el desarrollo socio económico del territorio. Es por eso que el objetivo de este trabajo ha sido mostrar las circunstancias actuales que presenta el humedal, principalmente si se relacionan con los objetivos por los cuales se insertaron las obras hidrotécnicas, el mantenimiento de las características ecológicas y el buen desarrollo de la biodiversidad existente, dependiendo en gran medida de un óptimo manejo de los recursos hídricos en el territorio.

    The functions and uses of water resources in the Great Wetland North of Ciego de Avila have varied over the years in line with the changes made by man on the natural water regime and socio-economic development of the territory. Therefore, the aim of this study has been to show the present circumstances existing in the wetland, especially as they relate to the objectives for which the hydraulic structures were built, the maintenance of ecological characteristics and the proper development of its biodiversity, depending largely on an optimal management of water resources in the territory.
