    RESUMEN Los eventos MICE1 son considerados una actividad lucrativa que aporta beneficios intangibles y tangibles a instituciones y destinos que los organizan y acogen. Son un importante elemento dinamizador de todo tipo de enclaves con vocación turística, actuando con carácter desestacionalizador, aumentando la demanda de servicios de gama alta y también el gasto medio del visitante. En Cuba, la inexistencia de fuentes fidedignas de información cuantitativa así como la dispersión de la actividad, unido a investigaciones insuficientes respecto a la competitividad, han dificultado hasta ahora determinar el nivel competitivo de los eventos científico-técnicos. La revisión bibliográfica realizada permitió sentar las bases teórico-metodológicas necesarias y definir los procedimientos científicos más adecuados para evaluar por primera vez la competitividad de La Habana como destino para los eventos científico-técnicos al hacer un análisis basado en una metodología estructurada en fases y pasos y el análisis de cuatro congresos internacionales como casos de estudios.

    ABSTRACT Events MICE are considered a lucrative activity, providing intangible and tangible benefits to institutions and destinations that organize and host them. They are an important driving element of all types of enclaves with a tourist vocation, acting with a seasonal nature, increasing the demand for high-end services and also the average spending of the visitor. In Cuba, however, the lack of reliable sources of quantitative information as well as the dispersion of the activity together with insufficient research regarding competitiveness have until now made it difficult to determine the competitive level of Scientific-Technical Events. The bibliographic review carried out allowed us to lay the necessary theoretical-methodological bases and define the most appropriate scientific procedures to evaluate for the first time the competitiveness of Havana as a destination for Scientific-Technical Events by making an analysis based on a methodology structured in phases and steps and the analysis of four international conferences as case studies.
