    Considerado uma das figuras maiseminentes do século XI, Pedro Damiano(1007-1072) tem sua biografia descrita eanalisada há pelo menos nove séculos.Muitos dos feitos e características atribuídosa ele foram fruto de construçõeshistoriográficas de diversos períodos, cujaobra hagiográfica de João de Lodi é aprecursora. Dentre os autores de grandevulto que fizeram referência às façanhasdesse eremita, podemos destacar oshumanistas Dante, Boccaccio e Petrarca.Além deles, historiadores eclesiásticos elaicos do século XIX anunciaram PedroDamiano como autoridade espiritual ereferência doutrinal no cenário político daIgreja Romana. Sendo assim, a partir da obrado cardeal Alfonso Capecelatro, pretendemosanalisar como a trajetória eclesiástica deDamiano é construída no fim do século XIX eo quanto ela responde a imperativos sóciopolíticosdo período. Além disso, verificaremoso quanto essa construção historiográficase aproxima ou se distancia da imagemsantificada erigida pelo seu textohagiográfico fundador.

    Considered one of the mosteminent religious of the eleventh century,Peter Damian (1007-1072) has his biographydescribed and analyzed for at least ninecenturies. Much of made and characteristicsassigned to him were the fruit of historicalbuildings of various periods, whose workhagiographic of John of Lodi is theprecursor. Among the authors of greatmagnitude that made reference to theexploits of this hermit, we can highlighthumanists Dante, Boccaccio and Petrarch.Beyond them, lay and ecclesiasticalhistorians of the 19th century announcedPeter Damian as spiritual authority anddoctrinal reference in Roman Church's.Thus, from the work of Cardinal AlfonsoCapecelatro, we analyze how theecclesiastical trajectory of Damian is built inthe late 19th century and how she respondsto the social and political imperatives of theperiod. In addition, we will see how muchthis historiographic construction approachesor moves away from the sanctified imageerected by his founder hagiographic text.
