    Exploramos un largo período histórico, concentrando nuestra mirada en una región de la Patagonia argentina que sufrió constantes transformaciones a través de su historia: el noreste de Chubut. Ubicada en el centro de la Patagonia, con una ocupación por parte del estado argentino que se inició hacia 1880, la región atravesó diversas fases del desarrollo capitalista, y en esas dinámicas de cambio y continuidad la clase obrera de la región también sufrió esas modificaciones, al tiempo de incidir sobre ellas. Durante décadas una de las problemáticas claves de esta región, de escaso poblamiento, fue la carencia de provisión de fuerza de trabajo suficiente para las necesidades planteadas por el avance capitalista. Esta característica generó experiencias y tradiciones en esta clase obrera regional, que condicionaron su capacidad de respuesta ante el posterior avance de la desocupación estructural en el marco de las últimas décadas del siglo XX, consolidado, con algunas modificaciones, durante el actual siglo XXI. La perspectiva de largo plazo nos permite formular lecturas sobre la relación entre el activo y la reserva de la clase obrera en cada momento histórico y las formas que adquirió el conflicto social.

    We analyze a long historical period, concentrating our attention on a region of Patagonia Argentina which suffered constant changes throughout history: the northeast of the province of Chubut. Located in the center of Patagonia, with an occupation by the Argentinean state that began around 1880, the region has gone through various phases of capitalist development, and in this dynamics of change and continuity the working class of the region also suffered these modifications, as well as it influenced and acted on them. For decades, one of the problems in this region of sparse population, was the lack of provision of adequate workforce for the needs of capitalism. This feature generated experiences and traditions in this regional working class. This conditioned its capacity to respond to further advancement of structural unemployment in the last decades of the twentieth century; a situation that was consolidated, with some modifications, during the current century. The long-term perspective permits us to make readings about the relationship between the active and the reserve of the working class in each historical moment and the forms that the social conflict acquired.
