    La Compañía de Jesús tuvo, entre sus atribuciones, el encargarse de la educación de en aquellos lugares donde fundó colegio; para ello echó mano de notables bibliotecas, algunas de ellas las más ricas en el orbe hispánico. La de los jesuitas en San Luis Potosí fue una de las más ricas en todo el norte novohispano y lo sabemos gracias al completo y minucioso inventario de sus libros, que quedó consignado tras la expulsión de éstos en 1767. Gracias a su riqueza podemos avanzar algunos resultados de investigación.

    The Society of Jesus had, among its attributions, the responsibility of education in those places where it founded a school; for this it made use of notable libraries, some of them the richest in the Hispanic world. That of the Jesuits in San Luis Potosí was one of the richest in the entire north of New Spain and we know it thanks to the complete and meticulous inventory of their books, which was consigned after their expulsion in 1767. Thanks to it we can advance some research results.
