    Este año (2024) se cumple el 750.º aniversario de una de las expediciones navales más misteriosas de la historia militar de España: el envío a Lombar día, cruzando el Mediterráneo a bordo de embarcaciones genovesas, de una fuerza de caballería por parte de Alfonso X de Castilla, con el objetivo de conquistar la ciudad de Milán. Esta operación se encuadra dentro de la «ida al Imperio», un viaje programado por sus aliados gibelinos con el que el rey castellano aspiraba a conseguir el trono del Sacro Imperio Romano Germáni co. Este acontecimiento histórico ha sido objeto de un estudio concienzudo por parte del Grupo de Investigación OSME. Coincidiendo con una efeméride tan señalada, nos ha parecido oportuno elaborar un artículo resumiendo todo lo que se sabe hasta la fecha sobre este complejo episodio de la historia medieval. Completamos nuestro análisis con una visión novedosa sobre el origen probable de los más de mil hombres que conformaban el nuevo ejército de fundación real, el origen de los recursos financieros empleados para pagar su transporte marítimo, y la ubicación del puerto de partida de la expedición:

    Alicante. Confiamos en que sea de utilidad para las investigaciones que en el futuro puedan contribuir a esclarecer los misterios para los cuales todavía no tenemos una explicación.

    This year marks the 750 anniversary of one of the most misteryous naval expeditions in Spanish military history: the shipment, crossing the Mediterra- nean sea, of a powerful cavalry force to Lombardy, ordered by King Alfonso X “The Wise” of Castile in 1274 with the purpose of conquering the city of Milan. The action is part of the framework of the Ida al Imperio, a long trip planned by his ghibelline allies aimed at the achievement of the long desired throne of the Holy Roman German Empire for the King of Castille. This historic event has been the subject of a thorough investigation undertaken by the OSME Research Group. Coinciding with the anniversary, we consider that this is the perfect time for the elaboration of an article containing an outline of all that is known to this date about this very complex episode of medieval history. We finish our analysis introducing a new vision about the most likely origin of the more tan one thousand men that comprised the new army of royal foundation, about the origin of the financial resources used for paying its transportation, and about the location of the port of departure: Alicante.

    Hopefully, this text will provide insight for future academic research aimed to clarify the many misteries for which to this day we are unable to give adequa- te explanations
