    Los símbolos heráldicos son una de las representaciones más relevantes e identificativas del ámbito militar. A finales de la década de los 80 del siglo XX, el desorden en que se hallaba la heráldica militar en las Fuerzas Armadas españolas hizo precisa su regeneración para recuperar su pureza y su finalidad identificativa y, a su vez, modernizar su imagen institucional. En este artículo se analizan las diversas acciones llevadas a cabo a partir de la regulación de los criterios para la confección de los escudos de armas aplicando los conceptos básicos de la heráldica general, y la modernización de las armerías con el establecimiento y normalización de los ornamentos exteriores, que comenzó en el Ejército de Tierra y se extendió luego a la Armada y al Ejército del Aire, configurando el panorama actual heráldico en la institución castrense.

    Heraldic symbols are one of the most relevant and identifying representations of the military sphere. At the end of the 1980s, the disorder in which military heraldry found itself in the Spanish Armed Forces made it necessary to regenerate it to recover its purity and its identifying purpose and, at once, modernize its institutional image. This article analyzes the various actions carried out through the regulation of the criteria for the design of coats of arms by applying the basic concepts of general heraldry, and the modernization of armories with the establishment and standardization of exterior ornaments, which began in the Army and was extended to the Navy and the Air Force, configuring the current heraldic panorama in the military institution.
