  • Linguistics has neglected the variety of systems at work in every text. These systems can be described according to four orders: syntagmatic, paradigmatic, referential, and hermeneutic. Interpretative semantics must take these into account to describe the construction of meaning in context. The basic semantic operations are similar to perceptive operations such as assimilation and dissimilation.
