L'Eucaristia en els dipòsits e relíquies per a la consagració dels altars hispànics d'època visigòtica

    Dues inscripcions d'època visigoda, pertanyents als anys 652 i vers l'any 627, procedents de Guadix i de Mèrida, respectivament, esmenten les relíquies que foren col·locades en dos altars en consagrar-los. Curiosament, entre les relíquies, no solament s'esmenta el Cos de Crist sinó també la seva Sang. Posar uns fragments del Pa eucarístic junt amb les relíquies és un costum que ja és testimoniat en els antics ordres de consagració d'altars romans; en canvi, posar-hi també part de la Sang eucarística podria ser de tradició hispana perquè, segons sembla, només és esmentat en aquestes dues inscripcions.

    Two inscriptions from Visigothic times, dated 652 and ca. 627 and co-ming from Gaudix and Mérida, respectively, mention the relics places in twoaltars upon their consecration. Curiously, the relics not only refer to the bodyof Christ but also to his blood. Placing a piece of eucharistic bread togetherwith the relics is a custom already witnessed in the ancient orders of conse-cration of Roman altars; on the other hand, placing also a part of eucharisticblood could be a Hispanic tradition since it seems to the only mentioned inthese two inscriptions.
