Resumen de Tirana in post-industrial time an attracted modern urban area for tourism

  • Albania possesses tourism resources from natural and cultural diversity to historicaland ancient places which are attractions devised to suit better the needs for alltourists coming to visit seaside, cities and rural areas. The influx of tourists is higher inthe coastal part, in the larger city and smaller in the rural area. Tirana as capital city isnot too much related with history and antiquity. Despite being the largest populatedcity today, it is relatively a new city. The tendency of development of an industrial citygets along with the development of tourism, although this concept in the past wasa separation between industrial cities and tourist cities. In Tirana there are severalantics places that can attract tourists. However, last years the number of tourist hasbeen increased significantly. This city is unique for its modern urban landscape, andnot just an industrial attraction. It attracted tourists from all the world and is going tobe an urban magnet in the future. The purpose of this study is to assess the level ofsatisfaction of tourists about the attraction factors having Tirana city as a destination.These factors include climate, culture, touristic tours, visit to ancient and newhistorical places, modern life and infrastructure, tourism information, transport, traffic,shopping centers etc. The assessment of tourist facilities regarding to attractionfactors is measured by tourists’ interviews in 2019. A semi-structured questionnairedesigned with specific questions is used for this purpose. From 789 interviewswas concluded that 87% of tourists like climate, 73% of interviewers were curiousabout culture and traditions, 65% of them preferred touristic tours, 81% of touristsvisited historical and ancient places. The most part of interviewers like modern lifein Tirana and were satisfied with information and transport facilities but they weredisappointed with traffic, noise and accommodation. This study results will help thetourism planners and local government to take strategic measures and to developtouristic policies and practices improving the urban tourism in Albania.
