  • The pronoun is one of the parts of speech which has been studied from different analytical standpoints. I have attempted to show that the pronoun is a unit whose meaning is esentially pragmatic, i.e. it has discoursive implications. At the syntactic level, it has a replacive function. It can substitute a noun, and adjective, and adverb, or a verb. It is a mechanism of the language-system at the textual level.
