    Este trabajo analiza desde la geopolítica crítica, 3 hitos históricos de Centroamérica a saber: Las independencias y continuidad de la colonia; Las exportaciones del café y el banano; y Las tensiones político-identitarias. Se utiliza enfoque cualitativo e inductivo, siguiendo el método hermenéutico para el tratamiento e interpretación de los datos. Como resultados, se obtiene que los debates sobre la región se han concentrado en 4 vertientes a saber: 1. La fragmentación del istmo por motivos geográficos y del orden colonial implantado por la corona española; 2. La paradoja de ser un puente continental y barrera para nuevas rutas comerciales urgidas por las monarquías europeas; 3. El problema de la otredad reproducido por la lógica de poder-acumulación criollo y modelo agroexportador basado en el cultivo del café y el banano; 4. El historial de intervenciones realizadas por Estados Unidos en la región sobre aquellos países  considerados un riesgo para su “destino manifiesto y doctrinal”.

    This paper analyzes from a critical geopolitic perspective, three historical milestones in Central America, namely: The independence and continuity of the colony; exports of coffee and banana; and political-identity Tensions. A qualitative and inductive approach is used, following the hermeneutical method for the treatment and interpretation of the data. As results, it is obtained that the debates on the region have focused on 4 aspects, namely: 1. The fragmentation of the isthmus for geographical reasons and the colonial order established by the Spanish crown; 2. The paradox of being a continental bridge and barrier for new trade routes urged by the European monarchies; 3. The problem of otherness reproduced by the Creole logic of power-accumulation and the agro-export model based on the cultivation of coffee and banana; 4. The history of interventions carried out by the United States in the region on those countries considered as a risk for their "manifest and doctrinal destiny".
