    En las principales ciudades del sur de Nigeria viven cientos de menores en la calle, careciendo de protección, sufriendo abusos físicos y sexuales, enfermedades o desnutrición y viéndose obligados a recoger chatarra ( niños ) o prostituirse ( niñas ) para sobrevivir. Una de las causas más importantes de este problema son las acusaciones de brujería que provocan que los menores sean expulsados de sus hogares o huyan debido a los sufrimientos físicos y psicológicos que la acusación y/o el proceso de exorcismo acarrean. La creencia en la brujería está muy extendida en el sur de Nigeria y las iglesias y "doctores nativos o chamanes" sacan partido de esta situación lucrándose con los exorcismos y/o "bendiciones espirituales". El estado no implementa la Ley de Protección del Menor y permite que se realicen este tipo de acusaciones y exorcismos o que las familias abandonen a los menores impunemente.

    In the main cities of southern Nigeria hundreds of children live in the street, devoid of protection, suffering physical and sexual abuse, illness and malnutrition. To survive, boys find themselves obliged to collect scrap metal and girls are often forced to become prostitutes. One of the major causes of this problem are the accusations of witchery that lead to children being expelled from their homes or deciding to run away to escape the physical and psychological distress that the accusation and/or process of exorcism entails. The belief in witchery is very widespread in southern Nigeria and the churches and native doctors or " shamans " make the most of this situation by charging fees for the exorcisms and/or " spiritual blessings ". The state does not enforce the laws that protect children and allows these accusations, exorcisms and cases of abandonment to take place without punishment.
