La Escuela Rural: ¿un destino deseado por los docentes?

    Estudios previos han puesto de manifiesto que el profesorado prefiere los destinos en escuelas urbanas. En Cantabria son numerosos los centros educativos existentes en el contexto rural y suelen ser los primeros destinos para los docentes durante los primeros años de interinidad. Hemos realizado un estudio para conocer si hay disposición por parte de los docentes para trabajar en estos centros. Para estudiarla, se ha empleado una metodología mixta basada en entrevistas en profundidad y cuestionarios a docentes activos y jubilados y alumnado del Grado en Educación Primaria. Los resultados ponen de relieve que la escuela rural es un destino muy deseado por el profesorado existiendo una visión positiva de esta tipología de escuelas y una adecuada predisposición a conocer o continuar impartiendo clase en ellas. Es posible concluir mencionando la importancia que tiene aún en la actualidad el mundo rural en esta comunidad, la escasa formación universitaria sobre escuela rural, la estabilidad en sus plantillas y la valoración de las posibilidades de su escuela por encima de las limitaciones, lo que lleva a verla como una opción viable a la hora de escoger destino.

    Previous studies have shown that teachers prefer posts in urban schools. There are many rural schools in the Cantabria region in Spain, and it is usually teachers at the start of their career who are appointed to these posts. Our study investigated whether teachers were willing to work in these schools. Some 188 people participated in a mixed methodology study based on interviews (38) with active and retired teachers in rural and urban schools, and questionnaires administered to students of the degree in Primary Education (150). The results showed that posts in rural schools were highly desirable for teachers, as they held this type of schools in high regard and were willing to learn more about them or to continue teaching in them. Bearing in mind the importance of the rural world in the Cantabria region today, it can be concluded that there is the lack of specific university education about rural schools, there is remarkable stability of their workforce and in the views of the study participants, the potential of these schools outweighs their limitations. All of this leads to them being seen as a viable option as a teaching destination.
