. The present article concentrates on the decisive dramatic determination of the tonos (musical poetry) in the Spanish theatre in the XVIIth century. After some reflections about the motivation that, starting in the Renaissance, there was in the will to seek through music an aesthetic expression that could bring us back a deeper knowledge about ourselves, it analyses the importance of the musical arguments that the tonos have in some examples like El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra in between many others that will be commentated.
El presente artículo se centra en la decisiva determinación dramática de los tonos (la poesía musicada) en el teatro español del siglo XVII. Tras unas reflexiones sobre la motivación que, a partir del Renacimiento, hubo en la voluntad de buscar a través de la música una expresión estética que nos devolviera un conocimiento más profundo de nosotros mismos, se analiza la importancia que los argumentos musicales de los tonos tienen en obras como El burlador de Sevilla y convidado de piedra, entre otras que también serán comentadas.
