La traducción de referencias culturales del alemán antiguo al siglo XXI: algunas dificultades en la traducción del Liber Evangeliorum de Otfrid von Weissenburg al español

    Al componer el Liber Evangeliorum, Otfrid von Weissenburg adapta terminológicamente algunas realidades culturales procedentes del mundo judío a la mentalidad cultural del pueblo germánico que le rodea, para facilitar la comprensión, basándose en rasgos semánticos y funcionales compartidos con realidades culturales autóctonas. No obstante, a la hora de traducir esta obra a una lengua moderna como la española, surgen una serie de dificultades que afectan a las decisiones que un traductor debe tomar en la lengua meta, lo cual le lleva ante el dilema de elegir entre traducir literalmente dichas realidades culturales al español, aunque sea necesario algún tipo de aclaración para facilitar la comprensión al lector, o utilizar una «voz del lenguaje universal» según Albaladejo (2011), lo que implicaría eliminar de la traducción rasgos culturales que forman parte del discurso marcadamente germánico del autor. Aquí se considera que el marco teórico de Newmark (2016), Albaladejo (2011) y Hurtado (2004) puede ayudar a tomar la decisión más consecuente.

    In writing the Liber Evangeliorum, Otfrid von Weissenburg terminologically adjusts some cultural items from the Jewish world to the cultural mind of the Germanic people around him to facilitate understanding by using semantic and functional markers shared with autochthon cultural items. Nevertheless, when translating this work into a modern language like Spanish, some difficulties arise that can influence the decisions a translator has to make in the target language. And this causes him to face the dilema of either literally translating such cultural items into Spanish, even if some additional clarification is required, in order to make easier for the final reader to understand or using a «word of the universal language», according to Albaladejo (2011). And this would mean deleting cultural markers from the translation that are part of the author’s markedly Germanic discourse. In this article the theoretical framework of Newmark (2016), Albaladejo (2011) and Hurtado (2004) can help make the most consequential decision.
