Resumen de Estudio cualitativo sobre el impacto en la relación abuelos-nietos ante la enfermedad de Huntington

El objetivo de la investigación es doble: (1) Comprender el proceso emocional de afrontar estar en riesgo de tener o ser sintomático de enfermedad de Huntington (EH), y su efecto en la relación abuelos-nietos. (2) Explorar en los abuelos el impacto del riesgo o del diagnóstico de EH de los nietos.
Se empleó una metodología cualitativa de estudio de casos. Se utilizó la entrevista como instrumento de recogida de datos y el genograma para la representación gráfica. Se pidió consentimiento a los informantes, permiso a la Asociación de Corea de Huntington de Castilla y León e informe favorable de la Comisión de Bioética de la Universidad de Burgos.
Se observa evitación de conversación abierta de la presencia de la EH.
Se confirma el impacto de la EH en el subsistema abuelos-nietos en la dinámica familiar. Se precisa un mayor conocimiento de las estrategias de afrontamiento específicas ante la EH en este subsistema.

The objective of the research is twofold: (1) To understand the emotional process of coping with being at risk or being symptomatic of Huntington's disease (HD), and its effect on the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren. (2) To explore the impact on grandparents of the risk or diagnosis of HD in their grandchildren.
A qualitative case-study methodology was used. The interview was used as data collection instrument and the genogram as a graphic representation. The consent of the informants was requested, the permission of the Korean Huntington Association of Castilla y León is obtained and the favorable Report of the Bioethics Commission of the University of Burgos.
Avoidance of open conversation about the presence of HD is observed.
The impact of HD on the grandparent-grandchild subsystem in family dynamics is confirmed. Greater knowledge of HD-specific coping strategies is needed in this subsystem.
