  • Resumen
    • Palaeostresses inferred from brittle mesostructures in the Iberian Chain suggest a recent stress field characterised by three directional modes of the maximum horizontal stress (SHmJ : NNE to NE-SW, N-S and NW-SE. Geological and geophysical data indicate the co-existence of these orientations from the upper M iocene to present-day in NE Iberia. These orientations suggest the existence of several stress sources responsible for the dominant directions o fS x in northeastern Iberia. Stress states with NW-SE trend o f 5 are compatible with the dominant pattern established for western Europe. N to NE orientations o f S suggest the occurrence of tectonic forces coming from the Pyrenean zone. Extensional structures within a broad-scale compressional stress field can be related to both the decreasing o f relative stress magnitudes from active margins to intraplate regions and rifting proccesses ocurring in eastern Iberia.
