This presentation aims to analyze death as a public and political phenomenon. Specifically, I focus on the institutional strategies governing the “religious collocation” of the dead in cemetery spaces. The ethnographic case I examine relates to Parisian cemeteries, burial places where both death and memory are constantly related to the secular configuration defining the identity of the sites themselves.
