    Este artículo aborda la autoría de los lienzos que decoraron el ochavo de la que fue Real Capilla de San Isidro en San Andrés, no de los cuadros que adornaron su antecapilla. Estas obras, el ciclo mariano, han sido consideradas obras de Francisco Caro y Alonso del Arco; sin embargo, ante las dudas surgidas a la luz de la historiografía y dentro del proceso de investigación realizado, tras estudiar la nueva documentación hallada, dicha autoría debía tomarse con reservas, pues una nueva lectura modificaba la paternidad del ciclo mariano. Además se abrían nuevas expectativas que explicaban las relaciones entre los pintores madrileños de mediados del siglo XVII.

    This article focuses on the authorship of the paintings that decorated the «ochavo» of the prior Royal Chapel of San Isidro in San Andrés, and not that of the pictures that embellished its antechapel. The works that compose the Marian cycle have been considered the work of Francisco Caro and Alonso del Arco. However, given the evidence of the recent historiography and within the frame of the research carried out by the present author, the analysis of the new documentation found indicates the above mentioned authorship should be taken with reservations, since a new reading may modify the authorship on the Marian cycle. Additionally, new perspectives explaining the relationships among the Madrid painters of mid-seventeenth century are developed in this study.
