    Uno de los capítulos más interesantes de la historia de la lengua española es el de las interferencias léxicas con el portugués. El contacto entre ambas lenguas se intensificó a fines del siglo XV y propició no solo el trasvase de una serie de voces originariamente lusas, que apenas sufrieron cambios al integrarse al castellano de la época, sino también favoreció la adopción de préstamos semánticos y la revitalización en el uso de palabras genuinamente españolas. En el análisis de la terminología azucarera, los registros documentales y la historia de esta industria avalan el origen portugués de toda una serie de voces que, procedentes de Madeira, fueron adoptadas por el español canario en los inicios del Renacimiento y desde las islas continuaron su andadura atlántica hacia e lNuevo Mundo

    One of the most interesting chapters in the history of the Spanish language is that of lexical interferences with Portuguese. The contact between both languages was intensified at the end of the fifteenth century. If fostered the movement not only of Portugues eentries that hardly underwent any changes when brought into Castilian at the time, but also of semantic borrowings, along with the revitalisation of certain Spanish words. In the analysis of sugar terminology, both the documentary files and the history of said industry support the theory of the Portuguese origin of a huge quantity of nouns coming from Madeira. These would have been adopted by the Canary islanders at the beginning of the Renaissance and from there they were to be exported over the Atlantic to the New World.
