Dr Igor Calzada, MBA, FeRSA is a Principal Investigator (PI) and Established Researcher (R3) at Cardiff University–WISERD, funded by the ESRC Civil Society Programme, Ikerbasque, and works at the University of the Basque Country as an Associate Professor. From 2012–2022, he worked at the University of Oxford–Future of Cities and Urban Transformations ESRC programmes, European Commission, and United Nations. From 2002-2012, he worked for a decade as Director at Mondragon Co-operatives (private sector) and for the Basque Government (public sector). He has more than 20 years of research/policy experience as a Senior Lecturer/Researcher in 14 universities worldwide. In 2022, he was awarded the Fulbright Scholarship in California by the US–UK Fulbright Commission, granted by the Learned Society of Wales, and was nominated among the 100 Most Influential Academics in Government by Apolitical. His research intersects digital, urban, and political transformations, particularly focusing on smart city citizenship, benchmarking city regions, digital rights, data co-operatives, and emerging digital citizenship regimes. His publications track record (328 publications) includes 63 journal articles, 13 books, 25 book chapters, 28 policy reports, 166 international keynote conferences, and 33 media articles.
