  • To carry out an appropriate nursing intervention in women diagnosed of breast cancer, it is necessary to know the needs of this group and to have instruments that allow a reliable and valid assessment of their needs. The main objective of this study is to identify the needs of women diagnosed of breast cancer at different times since the diagnosis. Needs were assessed through The Patient Needs Assessment Tool (PNAT) in a sample of 256 women between 31 and 83 years who were or had been attended in several healthcare services of Girona Health Region. Women of the different periods studied have the same physical, psychological and social needs. In general, women diagnosed of breast cancer have an active coping style characterized by a positive attitude towards the illness, acceptance and fighting spirit.
