    Esta tesis doctoral describe y analiza, desde un enfoque tipológico-funcional, construcciones de voz media en dos lenguas habladas en Resistencia (Chaco): español (familia indoeuropea) y toba (familia guaycurú). La tesis consta de siete capítulos.

    El capítulo 1 es de carácter introductorio, presenta la problemática de análisis, los objetivos e hipótesis de investigación; sintetiza los estudios previos sobre voz media, voz media en toba y en español y caracteriza el corpus y la metodología empleada. Este capítulo finaliza con un resumen que anticipa lo desarrollado en cada uno de los capítulos siguientes.

    El capítulo 2 inicia con un esbozo descriptivo sobre la gramática toba, focalizado en el sintagma verbal y, en particular, en el sistema de índices pronominales n- del verbo. Luego se presentan los antecedentes acerca de cómo ha sido estudiado el índice pronominal n- en toba y en otras lenguas guaycurúes.

    En el capítulo 3 se aborda una problemática central: cómo analizar la transitividad y valencia sintáctica de una construcción como “Juan se lava”. Se revisan los estudios previos que han respondido de diferente manera a esa problemática y se concluye proponiendo un análisis alternativo en torno al índice pronominal se.

    El capítulo 4 de carácter teórico-metodológico presenta estudios sobre voz media de distintas lenguas del mundo, así como también las hipótesis, preguntas de investigación y el procedimiento descriptivo-analítico aplicado a construcciones de voz media en toba y en español del NEA.

    En los capítulos 5 y 6 se describen y se analizan las construcciones de voz media observadas en el corpus de toba y de español del NEA, respectivamente, siguiendo la hipótesis central propuesta, según la cual estas lenguas exhiben características propias de los sistemas de voz básica activa/media (Klaiman 1991).

    El capítulo 7 sistematiza los principales resultados de la investigación y enuncia los interrogantes pendientes y líneas de investigación a futuro.

    The aim of this thesis is to describe and analize middle voice constructions in Toba and Spanish languages spoken in Resistencia (Chaco), from functional and typological perspective. Middle voice is coded with a set of pronominal indexes (n- verbal paradigm) that express subject/agent‟s affectation, personal and number categories (Censabella 1998, 2002) in toba language; in Spanish, clitic se paradigm codes middle voice and express subject/agent‟s affectation, reflexivity and others values related. We argue here that middle voice in Toba and Spanish languages manifest characteristics typical of a basic voice system (Klaiman 1991). Based on this hypothesis and, specially on the compatibility with middle marker, is described the behavior of 230 verbs of the corpus. The thesis has an introduction, five chapters and conclusions.

    Chapter 1: Introduction in which the aims, metodological and theoretical issues and the main ideas of each chapter are presented.

    Chapter 2: Sketch of toba grammar, with emphasis in the verbal phrase and their arguments; also are revisited previous studies about the n- verbal paradigm in toba and other guaycuruan languages.

    Chapter 3: Are discussed previous studies about reflexive clitics pronouns in Spanish language and the degree of transitivity in a reflexive clause.

    Chapter 4: Are revisited studies previous about middle voice from a functional and typological approach and are explained the hypothesis, levels and the analytical procedure applied in this thesis.

    Chapter 5: The middle voice constructions in Toba language are described and analyzed, focusing on the pattern of verbal lexicon, its semantic-syntactic characteristics and certain transitivity alternations wich co-occur with middle voice.

    Chapter 6: In the same way, the middle voice constructions in Spanish language are described and analyzed, focusing on the pattern of verbal lexicon, its semantic-syntactic characteristics and certain transitivity alternations wich co-occur with middle voice.

    Chapter 7: Summarize the main ideas of analysis and some future research perspectives.

    We conclude that the middle voice in these languages is structural, regular and includes heterogeneous continuum of middle contructions which not only is related to semanticsyntactic detransitivization or reflexivity.
