Resumen de Augmented reality techniques for stereoscopic and autostereoscopic 3D visualization

Arturo Quintana Torres

  • The Augmented Reality is a new technique rising in the field of the visualization and developing in several disciplines, such as learning, medical, industrial and entertainment. The Augmented Reality visualization over new devices with 3D and stereo techniques will improve the user experience. The main aim of this Ph.D. thesis is to develop an Augmented Reality system based on ARToolKit and capable of supporting Light Fields as virtual object models. The use of these new models will increase the realism of the augmented scene, improving the user immersion on the real-virtual environment. The marker's estimation by ARToolkit has required some improvements. A proposed algorithm has solved this issue reducing the jittering. Regarding the traditional visualization system used to display the augmented scene, the use of the stereoscopic and auto-stereo technique has been proposed, bringing more depth perception during the interaction with Augmented Reality implementations. All these results have been focused on learning activities, providing to the students and teachers of a tool that improves the depth perception, necessary in some subjects where are crucial these abilities to obtain some conclusions.
