Founded in 1890, the journal is devoted to research in mathematics in its broadest sense. Research papers on topics in algebra, real and complex analysis, topology, dynamical systems, functional analysis, geometry, locally compact groups, number theory, and other fields are published. Surveys of significant developments in the fields of pure and applied mathematics and mathematical physics may be occasionally included. The journal is of interest to research mathematicians in all areas of mathematics.

Fields of interest: The whole field of pure mathematics, in particular: algebra, number theory, analysis, functional analysis, topological groups, probability theory, geometry, combinatorics, functions of complex variables, category theory, graph theory, mathematical logic.
