    The historical aspects of the integration process in Europe refer to the construction of the unit marked out by the search for common interests that were able to establish bonds of solidarity among its members. The maintenance of peace in the middle of the twentieth century became one of the pressing goals for removing the specter of war and ensuring the development of Europe. The economy was the first step taken towards integrating the continent, but the idea of consolidating a community politically and socially involved with its citizens grew with the passage of time, culminating with the signing of the Maastricht Treaty in 1992. This treaty symbolizes the passing of a Europe of Markets to a Europe of the citizens.

    Os aspectos históricos do processo integracionista europeu nos remetem à construção da unidade balizada pela busca de interesses comuns que fossem aptos ao estabelecimento de laços de solidariedade entre seus membros.

    A manutenção da paz, em meados do século XX, tornou-se um dos objetivos prementes a fim de afastar o espectro da guerra e assegurar o desenvolvimento da Europa. A economia foi o primeiro passo tomado rumo à integração do continente, porém o ideal da consolidação de uma Comunidade envolvida política e socialmente com seus cidadãos crescia com o decorrer do tempo, culminando com a assinatura do Tratado de Maastricht, em 1992. Esse tratado simboliza a passagem de uma Europa dos Mercados para uma Europa dos cidadãos.
