Breve descripción de la duración silábica como señal de frontera sintáctica en tres velocidades de elocución

    El objetivo de esta investigación1 es determinar si las sílabas que son frontera de constituyente sintáctico señalan esta condición a través de la duración; y, si esta estrategia temporal es similar al variar la velocidad de elocución. En este trabajo consideramos que una sílaba se encuentra en frontera sintáctica cuando esté al inicio o al final de un constituyente, sea mayor o menor. Nuestros datos indican que en español las sílabas ubicadas en las fronteras sintácticas señalan este límite a través de una duración mayor que las sílabas que no se encuentran en frontera. Por tanto, consideramos que una de las estrategias prosódicas para marcar la frontera entre los constituyentes sintácticos es la duración silábica. Ahora bien, trataremos de evidenciar a lo largo de este trabajo si la estrategia temporal varía o no en las diferentes velocidades. Se entiende por velocidad de elocución el tiempo empleado por un hablante para pronunciar una cantidad determinada de sílabas fonéticas, sin incluir las pausas; mientras mayor cantidad de sílabas producidas, mayor su velocidad de elocución.

    The objective of this investigation is to determine if the syllables that are at syntactic boundary exhibit their location through duration; and if this temporal strategy is similar when varying the speech rate. In this work, we consider that a syllable is at syntactic boundary when it is at the beginning or at the end of a constituent, minor or major. Our data indicate that, in Spanish, syllables that are at boundaries announce so by having a longer duration than syllables that are not in this position. Therefore, we regard that syllabic duration is one of the prosodic strategies to mark the boundary of a syntactic constituent.

    We will try to show if the same temporal strategy is used in all the rates, or if it is different depending on the rate. We understand by speech rate the time utilized by a speaker to utter a determined amount of phonetic syllables, without including pauses; the more syllables a speaker produces, the faster his speech rate is.
