En Dialéctica de la Ilustración, Horkheimer y Adorno transforman radicalmente el concepto de “ilustración” fraguado en el movimiento ilustrado del siglo XVIII. Criticaron que el concepto se fundamentaba en una filosofía de la historia (en competencia con la historia de salvación del cristianismo) que quedaba desmentida radicalmente por los sucesos históricos del momento. La crítica de los autores saca a la luz los materiales olvidados por aquella filosofía burguesa de la historia, como el cuerpo propio, y nos permite continuar la crítica de la sociedad con nuevos instrumentos conceptuales. Entre estos un concepto transformado de “ilustración” que recupere su momento material-natural amputado y olvidado.

: In Dialectic of Enlightenment, Horkheimer and Adorno radically transform the concept of “enlightenment” forged in the Enlightenment movement of the 18th century. They criticized that the concept was based on a philosophy of history (in competition with the salvation history of Christianity) that was radically contradicted by the historical events of the moment. The authors' criticism brings to light the materials forgotten by that bourgeois philosophy of history, such as one's own body, and allows us to continue the criticism of society with new conceptual instruments. Among these, a transformed concept of “enlightenment” that recovers its amputated and forgotten material-natural moment.
