The aim of this paper is to discuss whether the conservator’s creative agency has beenactively influencing conservation decision-making processes especially in the case of “unruly”objects, those that, as defined by sociologist Fernando Domínguez Rubio, behave as variable, requiring creative adaptations. The paper takes an interdisciplinary perspective based on recentdiscussions about the future maintenance of late twentieth- and twenty-first-century musicalheritage.
