Cuatresia anomala y cuatresia physalana (Physaleae, Solanaceae): Dos especies nuevas de Colombia y Ecuador

    Se describen dos especies nuevas, Cuatresia anomala y Cuatresia physalana, distribuidas al suroccidente de Colombia y el noroccidente de Ecuador. Cuatresia anomala es la única especie del género con unidades simpodiales unifoliadas y anteras con dehiscencia aparentemente poricida, razón por la cual colecciones de esta especie se encontraban en los herbarios nacionales bajo Lycianthes o Solanum. Los caracteres anteriormente mencionados más la ligera asimetría de la lámina, la inflorescencia erecta, largo-pedunculada y la presencia de un callo en donde se insertan las flores, hacen de C. anomala una especie muy diferente del resto de especies del género. Cuatresia physalana es la única especie conocida del género cuyo cáliz acrescente forma pliegues profundos, algo similar a Nicandra y Physalis; este carácter, junto con el patrón en zigzag de la larga inflorescencia, sésil o muy cortamente pedunculada y el color rojo o salmón del fruto, son diagnósticos para reconocer fácilmente esta especie.

    Two new species of Cuatresia are described, Cuatresia anomala and Cuatresia physalana, distributed in the southwest of Colombia and the northwest of Ecuador. Cuatresia. anomala is the only species of the genus with sympodial unifoliate units, and the anthers with apparent poricide dehiscence; for this reason collections of this species were identified as the genera Lycianthes and Solanum. Furthermore, of the aforementioned characters, the laminae of the leaf is slightly asymmetrical, the inflorescence straight, long-pedunculate, the presence of a callus where the flowers are inserted, make this species distinguished from the rest of the species described in the genus. Cuatresia physalana is the only species of the genus with aristate plications in the accrescent calyx of the fruit, reminiscent of the accrescent calyx of species of Nicandra or Physalis, the zigzag pattern of the pendulous inflorescence, sessile or shortly pedunculate and the red or pink color of the fruit make of it different and easy to recognize.
