  Las Aplicaciones de acceso libre son muy importantes como auxiliares en cursos universitarios. En asignaturas de ciencias e ingeniería, Octave se ha constituido en una alternativa a Matlab, éste último que ha evolucionado de la original versión para computadoras de escritorio a la posibilidad del acceso en línea y también de utilizarlo instalado en un teléfono inteligente. Similarmente, es posible instalar Octave en un dispositivo móvil. Matlab y Octave ofrecen grandes ventajas en la notación de matrices, pues se abren y se cierran mediante corchetes, los elementos de las filas están separados únicamente por espacios y a su vez, las filas están delimitadas por el signo de puntuación conocido como punto y coma. Otra atractiva característica de Octave es la sencillez con la cual se programan algoritmos. En el caso de gráficas de funciones no muy complicadas, GeoGebra ofrece algunas ventajas en la manera natural en que traza las gráficas a partir de la simple definición de la función. Sin embargo, para funciones de tipo más general, es preferible emplear Octave.

  Free access Apps are very important as auxiliary resources at college courses. In science and engineering, Octave has been stablished as an alternative to Matlab, this one that has evolved from the original version designed for desktop to the possibility of online access and also of being instaled on a smart phone. Similarly, is possible to download Octave for a movil device. Matlab and Octave share advantages in matrices notation, since a matrix is open and closed by brackets, meanwhile, entries of rows are separated just by empty spaces, and then, rows are delimited by semicolons. Other nice feature of Octave is the easy way that algorithms are programmed. With respect to sketching graphs of functions such that its definition is not very complicated, GeoGebra offers some advantage due to the natural way that graphs are drawn only by writting the definition itself of the function. However, in the case of functions of a more general form, is better to chose Octave.
