Resumen de La (no) eternidad del mundo en Santo Tomás de Aquino

Transmitting the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas in a simple, attractive and precise way is a task that entails a certain difficulty. Part of this difficulty is, in a sense, unavoidable, given the complexity and extension of his work. Another part is, however, avoidable, if we find an initial topic whose terms are simple and which arouses genuine interest. This article is, therefore, a bet: to introduce a topic of Aquinas’s philosophy that generates attention on its own, and that, despite being a rather derivative topic of his work, is a good bridge to more fundamental topics. The proposed theme is that of the (non) eternity of the world. Thus, we present here an approach to its historical-controversial context and a synthesis of Thomas’s own position on the subject.

Transmitir de manera sencilla, atractiva y precisa la filosofía de Santo Tomás de Aquino es una tarea que entraña cierta dificultad. Parte de esta dificultad es, en cierto modo, inevitable, dada la complejidad y extensión de su obra. Otra parte es, en cambio, evitable, si se da con un tema inicial cuyos términos sean sencillos y que suscite genuino interés. Este artículo es, por tanto, una apuesta: introducir un tema de la filosofía del Aquinate que genere atención por sí solo, y que, pese a ser un tópico más bien derivado de su obra, sea un buen puente hacia temas más fundamentales. El tema propuesto es el de la (no) eternidad del mundo. Así pues, se presenta aquí un acercamiento a su contexto histórico-controversial y una síntesis de la postura del propio Tomás al respecto.
