La educación en disputa: La batalla por la igualdad en autoras españolas e hispanoamericanas entre los siglos XIX y XX

    Aunque la defensa de la educación para las mujeres en igualdad de condiciones con la de los hombres tiene raíces mucho más antiguas en el tiempo, fue en las últimas décadas del siglo diecinueve y las primeras del veinte cuando un número significativo de autoras españolas e hispanoamericanas debatieron por extenso sobre su necesidad. Convencidas de que la educación constituía uno de los pilares básicos para la construcción de una sociedad igualitaria, hicieron de ella tema central en discursos de todo tipo, desde el ensayístico hasta el poético. Este artículo pone su foco sobre algunas de las propuestas, exponiendo los argumentos empleados y estableciendo las semejanzas y diferencias más relevantes. De ese modo, se logra ofrecer un mosaico del frente común del que formaron parte estas autoras a favor de la educación para las mujeres, cada una con sus características específicas y en sus contextos culturales y políticos particulares.

    Although the defense of education for women on an equal footing with men has its roots much further back in time, it was in the last decades of the nineteenth century and the first decades of the twentieth century that a significant number of Spanish and Latin American women authors debated at length on the need for it. Convinced that education was one of the priority pillars for the construction of an egalitarian society, they made it a central theme in discourses of all kinds, from essays to poetry. This article focuses on some of the proposals, exposing the arguments used and establishing the most relevant similarities and differences. So, we offer a mosaic of the common front of Spanish and Latin American women authors in favor of women's education, each with their specific characteristics and in their particular cultural and political contexts.
