El presente artículo trata sobre el libro Many Mexicos, escrito por el historiador estadounidense Lesley Byrd Simpson. Publicado por primera vez en 1941 y con numerosas ediciones, el texto aborda la Historia de nuestro país (desde la etapa precolombina hasta las primeras décadas del siglo XX). El propósito es identificar, a partir de la escritura de la historia, su caracterización tanto de México como de los mexicanos. Así, aspectos como la cultura, las costumbres y las tradiciones las identifica a la par de ciertas condiciones, personajes y eventos que han conformado la Historia nacional.
This article deals with the book Many Mexicos, written by the American historian Lesley Byrd Simpson. First published in 1941 and with numerous editions, the text deals with the history of our country (from the pre-Columbian stage to the first decades of the 20th century). The purpose is to identify, from the writing of history, its characterization of both Mexico and Mexicans. Thus, aspects such as culture, customs and traditions identify them along with certain conditions, characters and events that have shaped the national history.
