Carmelo García Cabrera, José A. Pereiro

  • In this work, first of a series about Canarian Scombridae, following information is shown: 1) A check-list of Canarian species of this family. 2) General oceanographic features of Canarian waters. 3) A taxonomic description of Canarian Euthynnus (Katsowonus) pelamys. 4) Main features of skipjack fishery in every respect (season, type of ships and gears, etcétera). 5) Skipjack fishery at Hierro Island (whose total catch in 1971 was 82.472 specimens, with a weight of 198.560 Kg). 6) Length-weight relation of this species, that is W= 0,00971 L^3,176 7) Means, variances, variation coefficients, correlation matrix and factor matrix of seven morphometric characters, commonly used in morphometrical research.

At only factor, highly correlated with length, explains total variance.
