Las Administraciones Públicas y las Comunidades Autónomas tienen la potestad de conceder honores y distinciones, siguiendo sus propios reglamentos aprobados, que incluyen una serie de categorías en función de los méritos que se quieran premiar o los valores que se quieran resaltar. En general pueden conceder Medallas, títulos de Hijo Predilecto o Hijo Adoptivo, la colocación placas en la vía pública o en monumentos, el nombramiento de calles y vías urbanas, titularidad de edificios, etc. y en algunos también disponen de una Galería donde se expone el retrato de aquellos personajes que tengan unos méritos más relevantes, con la finalidad de dar visibilidad y mostrarlos a la colectividad para aumentar su presencia en la memoria. También otras instituciones oficiales, colegios profesionales y entidades culturales tienen una Galería para mostrar sus benefactores o presidentes que han dado relieve a la propia institución.

The Public Administrations and the Autonomous Communities have the power to grant honors and distinctions, following their own approved regulations, which include a series of categories based on the merits that they want to reward or the values that they want to highlight. In general, they can grant Medals, titles of Favorite Son or Adoptive Son, the placement of plaques on public roads or monuments, the naming of streets and urban roads, ownership of buildings, etc. and in some they also have a Gallery where the portrait of those characters who have more relevant merits is exhibited, in order to give visibility and show them to the community to increase their presence in memory. Also other official institutions, professional associations and cultural entities have a Gallery to show their benefactors or presidents who have given prominence to the institution itself.
