Resumen de Portugal em jogo de espelhos

  Knowing, signaling, and understanding the discourses of others about us, and our own about others, can provide an interesting map of affections and disaffections, a kind of cultural GPS of stereotypes that helps to situate and better orient ourselves in time and history, particularly in the «frequent negotiations» we have to engage in to set up relationships of partnership or antipathy.  Representations of a country, an institution, an individual are part of their history, of their cultural heritage. The more or less stereotyped representations we build upon others, and which others elaborate about us, function as a set of mirrors that generate deformed images. But these disfigured views are the eyes with which we see and interpret reality.  Starting from the basic question «how does the Other see me?» – or, in other words, «how is Portugal seen by the Other?» – this collection seeks answers to another key question – «on what is the Other based on to see me so?»

  Conhecer, sinalizar e compreender os discursos dos outros sobre nós, e de nós sobre os outros, pode oferecer um interessante mapa de afetos e desafetos, uma espécie de GPS cultural dos estereótipos que nos ajuda a situar e orientar melhor no tempo e na história, particularmente nas “negociações frequentes” que temos de encetar para estabelecermos relações de parceria ou de antipatia.

  As representações de um país, de uma instituição, de um indivíduo são parte constituinte da sua história, da sua herança cultural. As representações mais ou menos estereotipadas que construímos sobre os outros, e que os outros elaboram sobre nós, funcionam como um jogo de espelhos, geradores de imagens deformadas. Mas essas visões desfiguradas são os olhos com que vemos e interpretamos a realidade.

  Partindo da questão basilar “como me vê o Outro?” – ou, por outras palavras, “como é Portugal visto pelo Outro?” –, a coleção procura respostas para uma outra questão fulcral – “em que se baseia o Outro para me ver assim?”
