    Desde inicios del siglo XXI Canarias ha venido registrando una importante inmigración de procedencia exterior. Tanto los flujos como los stocks de población nacida en el extranjero, residiendo en Canarias, han tenido un gran protagonismo en la evolución y características de la población del archipiélago. En este año de 2022 es posible establecer las primeras hipótesis acerca de la afección que ha tenido la pandemia en estas corrientes de migración internacional. A ello contribuye la disponibilidad de información estadística, recientemente publicada, sobre los flujos migratorios de los años 2020 y 2021, su dimensión cuantitativa y su dirección geográfica. También nos ha sido de utilidad para la investigación una encuesta, con un alto grado de significación estadística, realizada por el Grupo de Investigación de Sociedades y Espacios Atlánticos de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. En consecuencia, una primera explotación de esta información permite reconocer el impacto de la pandemia en las migraciones internacionales en Canarias, objetivo de este estudio.

    Since the beginning of the XXI century the Canary Islands have registered an important immigration from abroad. Both the flows and the stocks of the population born abroad, residing in the Canary Islands, have played a major role in the evolution and characteristics of the archipelago’s population. In this year of 2022, it is possible to establish the first hypotheses about the effect that the pandemic has had on these currents of international migration. The availability of recently published statistical information on the migratory flows of the years 2020 and 2021, their quantitative dimension and their geographical direction contributes to this. A survey, with a high degree of statistical significance, carried out by the Atlantic Societies and Spaces Research Group of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has also been useful to the research. Consequently, a first exploitation of this information allows us to recognize the impact of the pandemic on international migration in the Canary Islands, the objective of this study.
