En el presente texto se estudiará «Vera», uno de los cuentos más relevantes de la obra Cuentos crueles del escritor francés Auguste Villiers de L'Isle-Adam.
El objetivo que se persigue es elaborar un estudio que enfatice los elementos de corte fantástico, los cuales juegan un papel fundamental en la estructuración del relato. Con el ánimo de no caer en un excesivo hermetismo, fundamentaremos nuestra interpretación en una metodología conformada por la hermenéutica moderna de Gadamer, planteada en su obra de 1960 Verdad y método, junto a lo planteado por Adorno en su teoría crítica, sin olvidar las corrientes literarias predominantes de su contexto.

This text will study «Vera», one of the most relevant stories of the anthology Cruel tales by the French writer Villiers d’isle Adam. Our objective is to elaborate a study of the mentioned text focusing on the fantastic elements which are fundamental for the structure of the story. This, in itself, does not represent a real contribution to the field of literary studies. However, by basing our interpretation on a methodology conformed by Gadamer´s modern hermeneutics proposed in his 1960 work Truth and method, together with the reflection that Adorno did in his critical theory, we can avoid an excessive and fruitless hermeticism in our proposed interpretation. And we believe that this does represent a small contribution, since we will be providing a possible personal interpretation of a classic story, without ignoring the prevailing literary movements in which «Vera» was created.
