El imperio otomano fue uno de los lugares donde antes y de una forma más extensa se practicó la fotografía. Los viajes a Oriente de europeos y el desarrollo del turismo posibilitó la aparición de importantes estudios fotográficos. Si bien el tipo de fotografía que se practicó entra dentro del ámbito del orientalismo, también se desarrollaron prácticas fotográficas documentales destinada amostrar la incipiente modernización del imperio.
The Ottoman Empire was one of the places where photography was practiced earlier and in a moreextensive way. The trips to the East by Europeans and the development of tourism made possible theappearance of important photographic studios.
