El 400 aniversario de la muerte del compositor y catedrático Sebastián de Vivanco (1553?-1622) ofrece una oportunidad ideal para estudiar tres documentos de archivo recientemente descubiertos: su última voluntad y testamento, un inventario post mortem de sus bienes y un registro de la almoneda pública de dichos bienes. Entre los principales beneficiarios se encuentran Pedro de Vivanco y Villagómez (ca. 1595-1642) y un niño, Pablo de Vivanco.
El inventario post mortem de Vivanco confirma lo que ya se insinuaba en otras fuentes como las Actas capitulares de la catedral de Salamanca: que Vivanco era un hombre de considerable riqueza. El inventario post mortem hace una descripción habitación por habitación de su casa y su contenido, ofreciendo una visión única de las actividades editoriales, pedagógicas y de lectura del testador. Además de artículos de lujo encontramos manuscritos, impresos de música encuadernados y otros libros. El objetivo principal de este artículo es el de presentar una transcripción completa de la última voluntad y testamento,el inventario post mortem y la subasta posterior de sus bienes.

The 400th anniversary of the death of composer and university professor Sebastián de Vivanco (1553?-1622) gives us an ideal opportunity to study three recently discovered archival documents: his last will and testament, a post mortem inventory of his earthly goods, and a record of the public auction of those goods. Among the principal beneficiaries of his will are don Pedro de Vivanco y Villagómez (ca. 1595-1642) and a child, Pablo de Vivanco. Vivanco’s post mortem inventory confirms what had already been hinted at from such other sources as the Actas capitulares of Salamanca cathedral: that Vivanco was a man of some considerable means. The post mortem inventory offers a room-by-room description of his house and its contents, offering unique insights into the testator’s publishing pedagogical, and reading activities. In addition to luxury items, we find manuscripts, bound printed music volumes and other books. The purpose of this article is the publication of complete transcriptions of Vivanco’s last will and testament, the post mortem inventory, and the subsequent auction of his goods.
